Division chief: Cynthia Chuang, MSc, MD

Division overview: The Division of General Internal Medicine and Hospital Medicine, part of the Department of Medicine at Penn State College of Medicine, provides comprehensive primary care for adults, including preventive health services, management of chronic medical conditions and treatment of urgent care needs.

Founded in 1972, the division has more than 55 faculty members, including outpatient and palliative care physicians, researchers and medical educators, and provides more than 30,000 visits each year at two clinic locations.

Faculty members are actively engaged in research, with funding from federal and non-federal sponsors. Research topics of interest include behavioral medicine, brief interventions, chronic medical conditions, end-of-life care, evidence-based medicine, family planning, medical education, humanities in medicine, quality improvement and women's health. In addition, faculty are engaged in medical education and have key roles in the Internal Medicine Residency, medical student clerkship and College of Medicine leadership.
