    Research interests

    Dr. Gerald Harkins' research interests include minimally invasive gynecologic surgery for endometriosis, fibroid and pelvic pain. His research group has publised on surgical education and on minimally invasive gynecologic surgery for patients with complex medical conditions.

    Dr. Harkins and his team specialize in complex robotic surgery for gynecology/endometriosis patients and in surgical safety and efficiency with robotic gynecologic surgery.

    Dr. Harkins is particularly interested in gynecologic surgery and improving quality of life for patients with endometriosis and female pelvic pain.

    Teaching and educational interests

    Dr. Gerald Harkins is director for the Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Fellowship at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, which has been in existence for more than 10 years. Previous fellows have gone on to position in academic medicine, teaching at residency and fellowship programs across the country. 

    Dr. Harkins and his team are leaders in presenting teaching courses to the fellows of AAGL to mentor and build the field of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.

    Dr. Gerald Harkins is chief of the Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecology in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has clinical interest in the care of patients with endometriosis and female pelvic pain, as well as fibroids, uterine anomalies and management of common gynecologic surgical conditions.
