Personal profile

Research interests

Dr. Lauren Forrest conducts research on three topics: eating disorder characterization, suicide risk factors and the co-occurrence of eating disorders and suicide. The overarching goal of Dr. Forrest's research program is to identify modifiable, transdiagnostic risk and maintenance factors for eating disorders and suicidal thoughts and behaviors, so that these characteristics can be targeted though intervention and prevention programs.

In Dr. Forrest's research on eating disorders, she uses a diverse range of computational and statistical approaches, such as machine learning and network analysis, to more accurately determine severity levels and characterize individual symptom relations. Dr. Forrest's work on suicide risk factors has determined that impaired interoceptive processing may be a novel correlate or risk factor for suicidal behavior. Her work on the co-occurrence of eating disorders and suicide has identified specific pathways through which eating disorder symptoms may increase suicidal thoughts and behaviors and vice versa.
