Research interests
Dr. Lisabeth Scalzi has a specific research interest in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). She was NIH-funded for a study of the epidemiology and mechanisms of subclinical atherosclerosis in SLE, for which she created a database including patients from both Ohio and central Pennsylvania. She has further studied SLE patients through the use of social media in a project that aimed to improve self-management and quality of life.
Teaching and educational interests
Dr. Lisabeth Scalzi serves as a research mentor for fellows in the Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship at Penn State Children's Hospital. Fellows choosing Dr. Scalzi as their mentor have the benefit of her clinical trials experience in addition to access to her database of systemic lupus erythematosus patients in central Pennsylvania and Ohio.
