    Personal profile

    Research interests

The focus of Dr. Michael Andreae’s current research is health care disparities and novel individual provider metrics of equitable health care. Dr. Andreae is orchestrating a multidisciplinary team comprised of perioperative clinicians and nurses, computer and political scientists, data scientists and statisticians to leverage electronic medical records to derive individual provider metrics of risk-adjusted performance to improve care process equity with individual feedback and pay for performance metrics.

To reflect the hierarchical structure of contemporary healthcare, Dr. Andreae and his collaborators are fitting Bayesian hierarchical models formulated in the ultrafast statistical programming language STAN.

This work would be incomplete if it did not include the voices of the patients and stakeholders concerned. Dr. Andreae is conducting mixed-methods research to elicit the perspectives of all people affected by the inclusion of social determinants of health in the electronic medical record. He developed his pertinent social science expertise in community-engaged research projects on barriers to research on the therapeutic benefits of controversial controlled substances and on statistical modeling for evidence synthesis of long-term pain outcomes.
