Research interests

Dr. Ronald Miller's primary areas of research interest include scenario-based training in graduate medical education, clinical acid-base and electrolyte disorders, clinical use of continuous renal replacement therapy and functional magnetic resonance imaging of the kidney.

Teaching and educational interests

Dr. Ronald Miller is course director for the renal medicine course at Penn State College of Medicine, director of the Nephrology Fellowship at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, and a master educator for the Internal Medicine Residency at the medical center.

He runs a yearlong renal physiology course for fellows and provides instruction in a number of clinical courses for medical students, including a newly implemented elective in clinical reasoning, and virtual precepting for students in clinic.

As a master educator, he provides small- and large-group instruction to residents and students, covering both clinical topics as well as the theory behind teaching methods and clinical decision-making.

Clinical interests

Dr. Ronald Miller's clinical interests include acid-base and electrolyte disorders, as well as acute kidney injury and renal replacement therapy in the intensive care setting. His clinical activities are focused on outpatient general nephrology as well as inpatient consultation. He sees patients at two external dialysis units and is the medical director of the DaVita dialysis unit in Palmyra, Pa.
