Dr. Roopa Siddaiah is a physician-scientist involved in clinical and translational research for more than 10 years. Her research focus has been in evaluating noninvasive bio-fluid to develop diagnostic and predictive markers for pulmonary hypertension in extreme preterm infants with severe lung disease. She has collaborated with external researchers and has presented her research at many international conferences.
In addition to being actively involved in bedside teaching of residents and fellows, Dr. Roopa Siddaiah also directs the medical student pediatric pulmonology and sleep elective at Penn State College of Medicine. She is also involved in the second-year medical student course Science of Health Systems (SHS 711), which discusses social aspects of population health and outcomes along with health policies.
She has also mentored many residents and fellows in career development and medical students in their medical student research projects; this has resulted in many publications and presentations in national and international conferences.
Dr. Roopa Siddaiah has developed and directs the severe BPD program, a multidisciplinary inpatient program involving pediatric pulmonology, home ventilator, neonatology, pediatric cardiology, respiratory therapy and nursing at Penn State Children's Hospital. She provides the most up-to-date, evidence-based care for preterm infants with severe lung disease of prematurity. She has expanded this program to an outpatient multidisciplinary BPD-PH program, working alongside pediatric cardiology to give continuity of care to these infants once they are discharged home from the neonatal ICU.
