Clinical interests

Dr. William Pomilla is director of stroke rehabilitation in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and co-director of the stroke program at Penn State Health Rehabilitation Hospital, where he also serves as Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation's director of stroke rehabilitation, reviewing member of the clinical competency committee and staff physician on the CARF committee.

Research interests

Since 2020, Dr. William Pomilla has served as chair of the data safety and monitoring board for the clinical research study "Predicting Ipsilateral Deficits in Stroke with Dynamic Model" (principal investigator Dr. Robert Sainburg), a project on which he has been collaborating since 2017. 

He is currently collaborating with Dr. Andrew Gardner on two studies - one on the effects of diet and exercise interventions in peripheral artery disease and the other on vascular and behavioral determinants of dysfunction in gait and cognition in middle-aged and older adults.

Dr. Pomilla's future work looks to explore the effects of transcranial electrical stimulation in acute post-stroke patients and the effect of that intervention on speech and motor recovery.

Teaching and educational interests

Dr. William Pomilla is the stroke didactic course director for students learning at Penn State Health Rehabilitation Hospital. He also regularly lectures for physicial medicine and rehabilitation residents; has spoken at departmental Grand Rounds; and teaches medical students on general rounds and outpatient clinic rotations.

Since 2015, he has been the primary provider of weekly stroke rehabilitation teaching rounds to residents, therapists and staff at Penn State Health Rehabilitation Hospital.
