A numerical modeling method for systems with nonlinear components; an application to exploding foil system

Abstract

A unique numerical model which provides suitable information for design of systems with nonlinear components is presented. For illustration purposes, the method is presented in the context of an exploding metal foil system. The model predicts the behavior of the system by simulating its nonlinear components via a discrete data interpolation technique. The method of data interpolation proceeds by segmenting the discrete data into sub-ranges. An iterative discrete data interpolation is applied to the data sub-ranges. The interpolation is used during the active simulation process to calculate the immediate value for the dynamic coefficient. Although the method is developed in the context of an exploding metal foil system, it is applicable to any generic system with similar nonlinear dynamics.
