    Abstract

A polarization-independent athermal electro-optic modulator using lithium niobate and/or lithium tantalite crystals was analyzed. The modulator had sandwitch configuration, in which a pair of lithium niobate crystals were bonded together and an embedded electrode was sandwitched between them. The two main advantages of the modulator was polarization independence and insensitivity to ambient temperature fluctuations.
