Abstract

Market power theory suggests that greater market power can be achieved by means of a cooperative strategy that involves collaborating among firms. Although there is a vast amount of literature about the management of corporations, little has been published on the subject of managing cooperatives. In this era of increased emphasis on cost control, many organizations are finding value in joining a cooperative organization, and organizational development practitioners may find this study instructive. It discusses cooperatives in five industries and success factors apparent in these cooperatives.
