Action potential initial dynamical analysis of neuron spiking adaptation

Abstract

Neuron is the basic unit of neuron system and information processing. The response property and information coding style of neuron to external stimulus is realized essentially through change of neurons physiological characteristics. Some important properties of neuron, such as adaptability, sensitivity and reliability, are both closely related to neural coding. During sustained stimulation, neuron spiking frequency may decrease, which is called neuron spiking adaptation. Former researches have shown that neuron spiking adaptation is decided by action potential initial dynamical mechanism of the interaction among various ion currents. In this paper, we set to study the influence of adaptation on action potential initial dynamical mechanism. Combining the result with the corresponding relationship between action potential initial dynamical mechanism and neural coding, we can further reveal the physiological mechanism of the impact of neuron spiking adaptation on neural coding.
