A recent meeting on the advances of technologies related to gene amplification indicates that there is a variety of new amplification techniques to supplement traditional PCR for the detection of rare nucleic acid sequences. These variety of approaches ensures that every sector of the nucleic acid community can be accommodated: clinical diagnostic versus basic research, RNA versus DNA, viral versus eukaryotic. Details of most of the main technique and technologies are presented.
