A very low temperature, ambient pressure strategy for synthesizing gram-scale quantities of the high pressure layered perovskite modification of Eu2Ti2O7 was investigated. The Eu 2Ti2O7 was synthesized by heating stoichiometric amounts of Eu2O7 and Ti2, for 24 hours at 1000°C under flowing. The XRD pattern for Eu2Ti 2O7 synthesized by oxidation of EuTiO3 matched that of La2Ti2O7. Layered perovskite type Eu2Ti2O7 shows an increase in SHG conversion efficiency relative to the lanthanum containing analog, which possesses a conversion efficiency of 10 × ω-SiO2.
