An autonomous approach to split-and-merge processing of side-scan sonar images

Abstract

This article presents an image segmentation algorithm based on the split-and-merge approach. Edge information is used in the predicates for the split and merge and the rationale behind the predicate selection is explored. An important contribution of this work is the automatic selection of predicate parameters. Examples shown indicate the viability of the proposed approach.
