Analysis of optical waveguide formed in x-cut Yb:GdCOB crystal by He+ implantation

Abstract

The planar optical waveguide was fabricated in x-cut Yb:GdCOB crystal by a single energy implantation of 2.5 MeV He+ at a dose of 1.6×1016 ions/cm2. The guided modes were characterized by m-line spectra with prism coupler. The refractive index profile in the crystal waveguide was reconstructed on the basis of parameterized index profile method. The energy loss was simulated by the TRIM (transport of ions in matter) code, and the results were investigated in comparison with the refractive index profile in the waveguide.
