Abstract

Remanufacturing is a growing segment of the manufacturing industry and there is scant information on how to manage operations. Characteristics of the remanufacturing environment are sufficiently different from those of the new product manufacturing environment that production planning and control techniques need to be different. Thus, new capacity planning techniques are developed and implemented along with some standard capacity planning techniques in a remanufacturing environment. The results show that the new techniques are better able to cope with the uncertainties in remanufacturing.
