Abstract

A reader of collected papers on geographic information systems (GIS). There are six major sections. The first discusses the nature and concepts of GIS, and is followed by selected system descriptions such as ARC/INFO, GBF/DIME and MAGI. The third section concerns data capture, notably the processes of digitizing, both vector and raster. Section four examines algorithms, data structures and other analysis and management aspects of GIS. The fifth discusses problems of creating cartographic output in a computer environment, including design and colour considerations. The final section discusses questions of proper system design and evaluation. The reader is prepared in loose-leaf format, with each section having a summary paper linking the papers together.-after Authors
