COMPOSITIONAL MULTIPHASE HYDRODYNAMIC MODELING OF GAS/GAS CONDENSATE FLOW IN GAS PIPELINES.

Abstract

Liquid condensation in natural gas gathering and transmission pipelines is a common occurrence. This subjects the pipeline designed to carry single phase gas to two-phase flow. The hydrodynamic model and the phase behavior model must be coupled for adequate accounting of the physics of this problem. Such coupling produces a 'compositional model'. Invoking the fundamental laws of continuum mechanics with volume-averaging technique, the system of governing conservation equations is formulated. Using the cubic Peng-Robinson equation of state and adopting 'the-same-equation-of-state-for-both-phases' approach, an appropriate phase behavior and properties model is developed. The temperature profile in the pipeline is predicted using an analytical model. The resulting model is a non-isothermal, one-dimensional steady two-phase hydrodynamic model capable of describing the formation and hydrodynamics of gas condensate in natural gas pipelines.
