title = "Creating a scoped ejournal list of biomedical journals in a large university setting: A case study",
abstract = "The Harrell Health Sciences Library: Research and Learning Commons (HHSL) at the Penn State College of Medicine has access to a wide range of library resources through the university but maintains an eJournal list of titles scoped to biomedical content. The separate list is important to maintain accurate holdings information for the annual reporting of library statistics and for interlibrary loan. The authors created a systematic way of building a scoped biomedical eJournal list based on titles indexed in major biomedical databases. The scoped eJournal list is active on the HHSL website, and there is a systematic process in place to maintain and update it.",

note = "Funding Information: Organizationally, the HHSL is connected to Penn State University Libraries (PSUL), which is the promotion and tenure home of faculty librarians, but it is funded by the College of Medicine. The model of buying a solitary collection of print materials for the HHSL is long past and has been replaced by a model of shared university-wide digital collections. In fiscal year 2016–2017, 89% of the HHSL collections budget was expended in support of shared purchases with PSUL. The remaining 11% of the HHSL collections budget was used to acquire resources that specifically aligned with the HHSL Collection Development Policy and were available to only the students, faculty, and staff of the College of Medicine and the academic medical center. Resources acquired by the HHSL in this manner are typically clinical in scope or are cost prohibitive for the entire PSUL system. Even though HHSL users have access to nearly all resources available through the PSUL, the HHSL maintains its own website, eJournal list, and database list to target resources specific to the needs of its local biomedical community.
