Crossed beam measurement of the H+ velocity-angle distribution from He*(2 1S) + H penning ionization

Abstract

The first measurement of a doubly differential cross section for Penning ionization is reported. At an energy of 0.33 eV, the protons are scattered sharply forward, and an additional 0.26 eV is released as translational energy. A completely ab initio prediction compares favorably with these results.
