Depolarization ratios of Rayleigh scattering for several organic liquids

Abstract

Measurements have been made on the horizontal depolarization ratio ρ{variant}h for several organic liquids. The existence of the Krishnan effect (ρ{variant}h ≠ 1) is well established in amorphous solids and has been reported in some liquids. The conclusion of these measurements is that the effect probably does not exist in liquids far from their critical points. The total depolarization ratio ρ{variant}u has also been measured and compared with other values.
