A semicustom designed integrated circuit for a residue number system (RNS) digital filter using the IBM MVISA CAD system is described. An algorithmic implementation of the filter multiplication is done by logarithm (index) addition. The authors review the relevant RNS theory needed to explain the design, and then present the architecture for implementation of an RNS filter module.
