Abstract

The present experiment explores the technique of electrophoretic deposition(EPD) as an alternate means of fabricating conformal powder interlayers for diffusion bonding. In EPD charged particles dispersed in a suspension are driven to move towards an oppositely charged electrode, upon which they ultimately deposit to build up a particulate coating. This process is expected to produce diffusion bonding interlayers with better densification characteristics and higher joint integrity, as well as accommodating a wide variety of surface contours.
