Dipolar oscillations of strongly correlated bosons on one-dimensional lattices

Abstract

We study by means of an exact approach the dipolar oscillations of strongly correlated bosons on one-dimensional lattices. At low densities damping is always present. It increases for larger initial displacements of the trap, and produces dramatic changes in the momentum distribution function. For higher densities, when a Mott insulating core appears in the middle of the system, the center of mass almost does not move after an initial displacement. In this case the momentum distribution function of the system remains, at any stage of the evolution, very similar to the one in the initial ground state.
