Dirac physics in a planar silicon photonics device

Abstract

We employ planar silicon photonic crystal "photonic boron nitride" to observe Dirac physics in guided optical modes, by breaking the inversion symmetry of a honeycomb lattice of air holes to open an observable optical bandgap.
