Discovering library user attitudes through the public understanding of science survey

Abstract

Science librarians are in need of reliable data sources on user need in order to make informed decisions and guide their professional practice. The National Science Foundation Surveys of Public Understanding of Science and Technology provides this information for the United States of America. This article reviews the study of the Public Understanding of Science (PUS) and the library literature, shows an example of data analysis, and charts a direction for future studies.
