Dispersion interaction between adsorbed linear molecules

Abstract

The substrate mediated dispersion interaction ΔVs between linear molecules is calculated. This generalizes previous work by McLachlan and by Gumhalter and Liu. The effective image plane position is found to be z0 = 1 A ̊ above the top C plane of graphite (for the case of N2 molecules). There is considerable orientational dependence.
