Distributed fault diagnosis in the Butterfly parallel processor

Abstract

A distributed, system-level fault diagnosis in a BBN Butterfly parallel processor with a multistage network with 4 × 4 switching elements is considered. A contention-free tree structure and its coupler structure are used. This approach takes advantage of the disjoint and identical properties provided by the tree structures to accomplish a fast diagnosis. It is shown that the proposed approach can detect and locate single faults caused by processor nodes, switching elements, or communication links. The diagnosis of a limited number of multiple faults is discussed.
