Abstract

A general feedback model for optimal control of psychotherapeute processes is presented. The model can be applied on-line by means of a recursive estimation scheme. In this way, continuously updated estimates are obtained of the between-sessions variation in the degree of control which is exercised by therapeutic manipulations upon client behavior. A case study is presented which shows that the pattern of control by therapeutic manipulations may vary substantially across sessions.
