Electrodeposition of H+ on Oxide Layers at Pyrite (FeS2) Surfaces

Abstract

The electrochemical behavior of pyrite (FeS2) has been studied in 1 mol dm-3 HC104 solution in the potential range of -350-300 mV (SCE). Reversible surface processes are observed in this potential region. The electrochemical i-V behavior is found to be dependent upon the amount of surface oxide below a monolayer that is present and on the pH. These surface processes are attributed to the electroadsorption/desorption of H+ on a surface oxide layer.
