Abstract

Previous research has developed a time-explicit series representation accurate to 3rd order in orbital eccentricity for the Cartesian coordinates of a satellite relative to a circular reference orbit (i.e., a series representation of epicyclic motion) with an intended application to the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) mission. This paper extends the series expansion to 9th order and examines the convergence properties by numerical analysis. While the additional terms in the expansion do not add significantly to the accuracy for eccentricities of the order used for LISA, they do reveal convergence problems for certain values of mean anomaly when the eccentricity is relatively high.
