Abstract

The goal of this study was to define a candidate replacement plastic material for stainless steel shims that are used in elastomeric bearing helicopter rotors. A design matrix was created based upon the specifications given, which determined that PEEK, PEI, and Teflon would be the candidate materials. Adhesion, chemical resistance, tensile, Izod impact, and Moldflow flow length studies were completed on the most promising candidate material, PEEK.
