Formation, structure and bond dissociation thresholds of gas-phase vanadium oxide cluster ions

Abstract

Guided ion beam mass spectrometry was used to study the formation, structure and bond dissociation energy of gas-phase vanadium oxide cluster anions. Oxides of the form (VO2)n(VO3)m(O2)q- were the dominant species and were represented by peaks in the anion total mass distribution. VO2, VO3 and V2O5 were found to be the main building blocks of the clusters according to collision-induced dissociation studies.
