Abstract
This special issue contains 67 extended abstracts written by participants in the Third International Symposium on the Geochemistry of the Earth Surface in advance of the meeting, which was held at Penn State in August of 1993. The papers cover a wide range of subjects, including paleoclimates and paleosols, chemical weathering and denudation at scales from the watershed to global, geochemical and isotopic records of the chemical denudation of the continents, early diagenesis and organic geochemistry of sediments, geochemical kinetics at low temperatures, global cycles, and environmental geochemistry. The unifying theme is the advancement of our knowledge of surficial geochemical processes, with an eye toward improving our ability to predict how the surface of the Earth will respond to anthropogenic and natural changes in the future. -from Editor
