Abstract

This document presents a GIS-based model for the assessment of the potential for the installation of photovoltaic systems in urban environments, installed at the rooftop of buildings. The work represents an improvement of the methodology developed by Bayrakci-Boz (2015) as it adds a three-dimensional view of the site of study, and also (and more importantly) it is capable of extracting useful information from low-resolution LiDAR data. The methodology was used to map the solar photovoltaic potential within the Borough of State College, PA, USA.
