Abstract

Sequence comparison of Drosophila melanogaster glucose dehydrogenase, Escherichia coli choline dehydrogenase, Aspergillus niger glucose oxidase and Hansenula polymorpha methanol oxidase indicates that these four diverse flavoproteins are homologous, defining a new family of proteins named the GMC Oxidoreductases. These enzymes contain a canonical ADP-binding βαβ-fold close to their amino termini as found in other flavoenzymes. This domain is encoded by a single exon of the D. melanogaster glucose dehydrogenase gene.
