Abstract

Ground-fault and overcurrent protection criteria for coal mine a. c. distribution systems were examined under a Bureau of Mines funded investigation. This study focuses on ground-fault protection, whih is presently the most controversial aspect of protective relaying in coal mines. The design considerations for a ground-fault relay system are presented and recommendations are given to assist the mine power engineer in achieving both safety and selectivity.
