Abstract

This paper presents a quantitative treatment of heterogeneous equilibria in ammonia/laterite hydrometallurgical systems, by means of several types of hydrometallurgical phase diagrams (e. g. , Eh-pH, log left bracket NH//3 plus NH//4** plus right bracket -pH, log left bracket CO//2 right bracket -pH, log left bracket SO//4**2** minus right bracket -pH, log left bracket Metal right bracket -pH). Dissolution/precipitation phenomena associated with nickel and cobalt recovery and with magnesium scaling are discussed.
