    Abstract

The development of high dielectric constant polymers as high-energy density (HED) field effect actuator and capacitor materials was discussed. For the study, poly(vinylidene fluoridetrifluoroethylene), P(VDF-TrFE), based terpolymers were synthesized by a bulk polymerization method. By introducing the random incorporation of the bulky termonomer into the P(VDF-TrFE) polymer chain, the random defects fields were introduced and caused disordering of the ferroelectric phase. It was suggested that the electromechanical response of the terpolymers can be tailored in a large range to meet different applications.
