Highly stabilized perovskite solar cell prepared using vacuum deposition

Abstract

With proper optimization, high efficiency solar cells are fabricated with the perovskite layers prepared using a one-step solution process and vacuum deposition method. It is found that the perovskite film prepared using the vacuum deposition is apparently denser with complete surface coverage, whereas the one prepared using the solution deposition shows poorer film quality. As a result, the device made by vacuum deposition exhibits much better stability. After being exposed in ambient conditions for 1488 hours, the bare solar cell without encapsulation degraded by only 7% in efficiency, whereas the cell using the solution processing degraded by 30% in the first 144 hours. Moreover, it is found that the perovskite film prepared by vacuum deposition shows significantly better thermal stability. With the outstanding stability improvement using the vacuum processing, it appears promising that further encapsulation may help advance the perovskite devices further into applications.
