Abstract
The authors recently demonstrated that alkenylboranes can be polymerized by Zielger-Natta process and the poly(borane)s produced therefrom can be quantitatively converted to poly(alcohol)s. Such monomers can further be copolymerized with 1-alkenes to give hydrocarbon polymers with varying degrees of functionalization. The authors extend this approach to the synthesis of functional polymers by ring opening metathesis polymerization of appropriate cycloalkenyl borane monomers.
