Abstract

The integration of Satellite communication systems (Satcom) and global positioning system (GPS) technology by Penn State Erie, the Behrend College into their curriculum are discussed. These projects provide the students involved with hands-on Satcom experience in solving real-world industrial problems. The combination of Satcom and GPS provides the student with an exceptional background to work in the ever-changing communications industry. It is anticipated that the need for technologists who understand Satcom systems will allow Penn State Behrend to offer a technical elective to teach the design, operation and maintenance of Satcom systems.
