Abstract
A discussion on the physical processes occurring in coalbed reservoirs that are relevant to the development of mathematical models and practical engineering tools, which can be used for predictive, interpretive, and design purposes covers the average composition of gas from coalbeds; diffusion and sorption phenomenon; heat of combustion of coal gas and natural gas; typical Langmuir sorption isotherms; micropore matrix geometries, prefactors, and shape factor; coal as a porous medium; methane flow through a coal seam; a multi-mechanistic transport model; and a synergistic research program.
