Preliminary pressure-area isotherms obtained in this laboratory for HDNNS and the purified active reagent in LIX65N at the air/water interface were reported previously. The scope of these film balance studies has now been expanded to include both the equilibrium and dynamic properties of the monolayers. This paper reports and discusses the results of monolayer dissolution experiments conducted in an effort to obtain a more complete description of the extractant/aqueous phase interactions. Dinonylnaphthalene sulfonic acid (HDNNS) was used throughout this study.
