Abstract

A study conducted in liquid crystal cored fibers and slab waveguides showed several nonlinear optical phenomena with lower optical threshold fluence. A stimulated Brillouin scattering with phase conjugation characteristics was seen in the fibers with thresholds on the order of 60 μJ or so. For planar waveguides comprised of nematic liquid crystals, scattering loss was reduced by dc electric field stabilization.
