Measurement of layer-by-layer growth of helium and hydrogen on gold

Abstract

In two separate studies, we have observed layer-by-layer growth of 4He films on the gold electrodes of a quartz microbalance below 1K and also the layer-by-layer growth of H2 films on thin gold foils below 12K via the traditional volumetric adsorption isotherm method.
