Abstract
The methylation of biphenyl (BP) with methanol to 4-methylbiphenyl (4-MBP) over NH4-F modified nanosized HZSM-5 was studied. The effects of reaction conditions were investigated before further study on the modification of catalyst. The reaction temperature had a great influence on the activity and the stability but a little on the selectivity of 4-MBP. The good stability and the high conversion were at 450°C. The effects of NH4F loading and the calcination temperature of NH4F modified nanosized HZSM-5 were further investigated. The stability of catalyst is improved greatly with the increase of the NH4F loading and the calcination temperature, while the selectivity of 4-MBP increased slightly. When the catalyst was calcined at 500°C, the conversion of BP could be kept constant for 10 hr.
