Mid-IR detection of a precursor to the prehydrated electron

Abstract

Ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy probing in the mid-IR is used to investigate electron hydration following ejection from Fe(CN)64-. An intense, broad absorption signal shows an instrument-limited appearance and 170±20 fs decay. The signal is assigned to the direct precursor to the presolvated electron.
