Mini-transplant from a matched unrelated donor

Research output: Contribution to journalReview article

Abstract

It is also important to establish a method to use alternative donors in mini-transplant settings. However, there are some problems, such as difficulty in performing donor-lymphocyte infusion(DLI) from an unrelated donor. In most countries including Japan, bone marrow is mostly used as a source of stem cells in unrelated transplant. This may cause another problem in engraftment. In addition, graft rejection and GVHD may also be a problem because of the difference in minor antigens. Despite these problems, early experience including our own has shown that mini-transplant from an unrelated donor is a feasible procedure and further development is expected.
